Down the hills and into...The Flatness

No longer PA Residents

That's right, we made it out of Pennsylvania this morning meaning that we are officially no longer PA residents. Wow, that feels weird to say. We crossed into Ohio and drove and drove. Not a whole lot going on in Ohio, but since Bri went to college there, I DID get some good small town stories. You know, they go something like "wow, we used to go to that truck stop ALL THE TIME". I think I had to be there ;-)

Indiana

Indiana was also pretty uneventful. Just putting lots of miles down. Now I missed a picture of us making it into Illinois, but we did make it through Chicago today. The whole Chicago metro area was pretty crazy. We didn't actually go through downtown or anything (80 stays south), but the congestion was enough to make us glad we didn't take any detours. I'd love to really visit Chicago sometime, but driving isn't the way to do it. As a side note, we found some of the worst road conditions encountered so far in Illinois - tons of potholes, ridges and uneven pavement. Normally it wouldn't have been that noticeable, but when your truck's springs are pretty much bottomed out, you feel everything. This was all a little ironic too, since I-80 through Illinois was actually a toll road with some pricy tolls.

Rolling into Iowa

Now we really feel like we're in the breadbasket of the country. We stopped about 60 miles into Iowa for the evening, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Of course technology makes it feel like you're still close - I'm writing this blog entry using a Verizon wireless card over a 3G connection. Pretty much feels like I'm in a Starbucks in the middle of Philly (HUGE thanks to John Young for letting me borrow this thing, BTW)

Econo-rriffic!

We stopped for the night just outside of Iowa City. Pretty basic accomodations at the Econo-lodge, but clean with a great price and super friendly staff. What more can you ask? We're about 1000 miles into our trip right now, meaning we're about a third of the way. This country is big!

I can tell you are now a true oenophile. Who knew a cabernet went with a subway sandwich. I'm so impressed. Drive carefully. Bri says you're great with the "big rig". Much love

Thanks, adopted mom! Yes,

Thanks, adopted mom! Yes, it's true the cabernet pairing with the Subway sandwich wasn't perfect, but then again one glass of wine and we both just passed out.
